The Passport Giggle

There’s a certain kind of giddiness that bubbles up when you get your first passport, one that even 4 year-olds get. Mikaela has no idea how much power that little blue book holds and yet she was excited and giddy to get this little book with her photograph and her name.

I recall when I first applied for and received mine. I was 17 and headed on a youth trip to Australia! The greatest summer of my life! I’ve gotten a few passports since then; most of them with name changes as life happened. And I get that giddiness all over again each and every time.

Do you recall when you first got yours? What did it feel like to finally hold and then use it? What does it feel like now to pull it out of the back of the drawer, or wherever it’s safe hiding place is, as the world reopens for tourist travel?

SPECIAL NOTE!

Expect to wait 3-6 months to receive your passport, whether you’re getting your very first one or renewing. There’s a huge surge as people realize there’s has expired, will expire soon, or the pandemic made them realize they don’t want to be home anymore.

So, get to your local post office and submit your application. The world awaits!
